Hard drive disappears So I made the mistake of upgrading my OS and installing an extra hard drive at the same time. Now I like the new windows, went from XP MCE 2005 to Windows 7 so I'm not complaining about that. Its just now I'm not sure if its the new OS or the new HD thats the problem. I noticed my restore wasn't restoring backup points. So, I went to restore section and verified that indeed it was shut off. I noticed it was turned off for C:, but turned on for D:, but showed no restore points, and it was also turned on for I: drive which is my My Book external back up drive. I backup both C/D drives to this continuously. I decided to turn off the D: drive for restoring as I have everything backed up to My Book I: drive as I don't want that backed up to the C:. After doing that I noticed the D: disappeared from the view window of available drives for restore. I went to device manager and it shows no D:. I save all files to D:. C: has OS Windows 7, Office 2013, and other software that works better on an SSD. . I save all files to D:, then back them up to My Book. I have searched here and other places for solutions, but most have to do with new installs. Any ideas would be apprecaited
So about a week ago Windows warned me about some kind of hard drive issue where they asked me to backup the hard drive itself with steps, stupid enough i miss judged not seeing this as an actual warning. Now these last days the hard drive has been disappearing from my computer.
I cant access any files, any games because most of my things are installed on the hard drive.
Yesterday I tried turning off the computer, and plugging the cables for the hard drive in and out, that fixed the issue yesterday but today this wont seem to solve my problem. Any ideas? Cheers

I installed Windows 7 x64 on my HTPC and have found that after resuming from S3 sleep, my media drive (1TB WD 10EACS) is missing. The drive is not seen in Disk Management and is not discovered when I scan for new hardware. The only way to get the hard drive back is to reboot. Power and data cables are secure. This exact build did not have this issue when running Vista. Win7 is the only change. If I enter S3 and then immediately wake the system the HDD is still there. The problem seems to occur when the HTPC is in standby for a longer period.. like overnight.
This is on a GA-MA69GM-S2H motherboard with the SB600 SATA controller running the latest drivers in AHCI mode. I switched to IDE mode and the problem has not occurred for two days. (/crosses fingers)
This is a critical flaw for HTPC use since S3 sleep is a must. My HTPC missed several TV recordings because when it woke up my media drive was gone and I'd like to prevent this from happening again. (This really reduces the WAF!)
I posted on the TechNet forum with others having the same problem here: HDD not waking from sleep Windows 7 RTM?
I thought I'd open the topic for discussion here at Tom's since the forum here is more robust. Anyone else observing this behavior in Windows 7? Does anyone know of a fix for AHCI mode?
Please share your stories/experiences.

Hard Drive Missing In Bios Windows 7
I am Having an Issue, I have a 120 GB SSD as my Primary Drive and a 2 TB secondary HDD, Everything works fine if I Turn the machine on, but if I restart the machine my 2nd HDD (the 2TB one) disappears from Windows. I have to Shut Down ans power back up to get it back.
Dell Optiplex 7010 Motherboard with a Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
The Drives are
TS120GSS D220SP (120GB SSD)
Hitachi_HUA722020ALA330_J (2TB HDD) (This is the Drive thet is not seen after Restarting)
Controller is set to AHCI
I am Running Windows 10 64bit Pro on a UEFI Boot.
Yes the device is seen in the BIOS after a restart.
I have Tried with Secure Boot Enabled and disables, and Legacy Boot Enabled and Disabled.
I have tried Swapping the SATA Port of the DVD Drive and the HDD, and still the same Issue, No HDD (but in both cases it does see the DVD drive) so I don't think its a hardware issue.
